Poll
Opinion polls have been pretty popular. I know people who would vote almost everyday about anything under the sun, but still find it useless to go to a polling booth and cast their vote during goverment elections.
When you have a clear sample space you may require a 'yes', a 'no' and a 'can't say'. Because you expect everyone to vote and those who want to abstain their vote can also state so.
But when it comes to internet polls, where the sample space can never be calculated (well you might avg the no of hits per day but even that doesnt make sense), it just doesn't make sense to have a 'can't say' for an opinion. If you can't say anything, just don't say. There are so many people who don't even bother to say, it doesn't make a difference if you can't say.
Today in The Economic Times, at 8 in the morn I observed that the previous poll had 81% yes, 19%, 0% can't say.
I was delighted. And I thought i should blog about and put up the link.
Well happiness is shortlived. When I checked the link, it became 17% no and 2% can't say. (It's the "Do you think Railways' frequent traveller scheme would be a success?" )
Hmmmm. I think the only purpose 'can't say' might serve would be to tell the guy who makes these questions for poll everyday that his/her question sucks. Bad manners.
So, 'can't say' should be removed I say. What do you say? (comment option)
