Job Hunting

This is post is coming up pretty late. But at the risk of sounding cliched, better late then never.

There is this job hunt site started by a couple of friends which is doing pretty well now.
Hope it comes of use to people at the time of turbulence.

Cases cased

I was reading this case for a course called Organizational Behavior.
It made me wonder how much of effort goes into making such a case.

Math based cases are much easier I feel.
But OB cases ??!!
Think about it! It's just a conversation and each line is so important.
Just to develop a conversation that can be studied is like I dunno, infy effort !!!

Birthday Blast 2009

It's the first time my birthday fell on a day in the middle of a term in college.
Incidentally it fell on a Sunday with the Saturday night having a party called the Badla Party (essentially a kinda fresher's night).
Amrit (Vatsap?) flew down from Bhubneshwar, on his way to his 'well' publicized Meghalaya trip.
And we have a vague culture here where you get dunked in cake and maggie and frooti and all the crap that your pals can find, and you are bumped till you go sore.

End result:
I had a blast! and partied into the night, and literally danced till I dropped :)

PS: Lemme also mention a happy birthday to Divya Anusha (21st July.. good friend from school)

The Lily Garden

I took your lily and entered your lily garden.
So sweet of you to have laid out a patch of sunflowers for me.
A warm welcome I must say.
But I look around for you a glimpse may be.

My guardian angel where are you
I look hither thither I can't find
And then I hear a distant buzzing
Honey bee with my honey I find

Definitions!!!

I was busy trying to get some useful information out of the world wide web.
I was about to type 'definition of deferred tax' in the google search bar in my firefox and to my surprise by the time I typed 'definition' the following turned up as the google search:
(put down by the priority list given)

definition of terrorism
definition of internet
definition of globalization
definition of pollution
definition of computer

However disturbing it is to know that the most searched up definition is terrorism, it baffles me how does somebody who doesn't know what internet or a computer is, is able to type in and search through Google search engine!!!

Weekends

I am happy I m still in my college days. I know at least two people who feel bored and lonely during weekends. Both of them work and don't really have a gang of friends to hang out with.

My weekends are jam packed as always wherever I am.
This one is jammed with my jamming session (blogging from one of them actually).
I am a member of my college band now. Joka Bus Stand aka BaroC.
" The music band is called JBS BaroC for a reason (By the way Baro, in Bengali, is 12... so BaroC represents the bus numbered 12C... which started from the bus stand opp. the main gate.).. The reason is that it was thought that only 2 things can take your soul/self out of IIMC... One is the 12C bus and other is the music inside!... That's why the band is called JBS BaroC! " (contributed by TOPGUN)

Yeay!

To my life n everything in it

Sometimes you wonder if u are at the right palce
Sometimes you think again what you are upto
But at the end of the day it doesn't matter where you are or what you do
It matters of course who you are and whom you touched

To all those who touched my life
Love you all and thanks very much

PS: love is a very subjective word.. but nevertheless... trust it

Quizzers Whims

My first quiz in IIM Calcutta was an utter rape.
Naah! I didn't rape the paper.
The initial shock I got when I first saw the paper was exponentially increased when I was told its for 10 minutes.
Most appropriately I'll get a null. And I'd add a smiley here :) because it's too depressing to put :(

But in a way it's a good thing.
I have some motivation to study which I lost almost immediately after I entered the acad system of IIT Madras.

Going Concern

Now I will tell you what I've done for you
50 thousand tears I've cried.
Screaming, deceiving and bleeding for you
And you still won't hear me.

Her voice hurts, screams, touches and makes you cry.
God bless the power of music
God bless the essence of poetry
God bless the world of songs

Coffee is Forever

Prior to coming into IIT:

Prior to coming to IIM:

After coming to IIM:

Craze

Why doesn't annoying craziness stop ??

Strike Rate

Frustrated your blog aint getting any attention?
Write a random post criticizing a community that is highly popular (famour or infamous).
And voila! You'll have 200 comments with random people taking a dig at it, at each other.
And your hits increases exponentially!!!!

Anyway not exactly in those lines, but I came across a blog post which most of you would have seen earlier.
Lemme give it some more publicity that it already is desperate for : http://helloji.wordpress.com/2008/03/05/iit-insufferable-indian-tribe/
It is basically a criticism of IITs.

So yeah it have some 357 comments or something; about the post, about mudslinging and even debating if the author is an IITian or not.

When I read the post I did not feel it necessary to either complete reading the post or to bother to comment.

But what really surprised me was :

"this is so familiar :) . there's another "breed" BTW – the IIT-IIM combo! That just rips everything apart."

by a blogger who shares my name.

In fact I had tried contacting her once when I found her blog. And it did not blossom into friendship.
Irony of my BRAND is it?

Coffee Conversations

My parents had come to drop me off at IIM Cal. We reached on a Thursday and they left on the following Sunday. That day as we were having lunch in my mess we over heard the conversation of three students at the same table. They were talking about the market fluctuations in the last week.

My dad had observed it. So had I. I was scared wondering if I blend into this system. He was delighted and he said to me tha the next time he'd come over I'd probably react like this. I just thought he was crazy.

Following Thursday, we were supposed to report a case as a group. We were sitting at the library pouring in our brains and three of us took a coffee break. We walked out to Nescafe and were havign a causal conversation about our case.

Well I m still not discussing the market but at least my coffee conversations have refined :)

(Come to think of it I think I had my life's most interesting conversations over a coffee... a lot can happen over coffee...)

Header July 2009

These flowers are flicked from the Dean's Dinner at insti (IIT Madras)
The "Universe" has now turned into "Joka Days" cos I realized I now hvae two parallel universes, and till now I had only one, insti. :)
So I thought I shall have a minor variation.

Connected

I reached IIM Calcutta on 11th June, 2009.
I put up three blog posts on the day I left my home in Visakhapatnam.
And it was on the 1st of July that I finally got net connection and a laptop.

The first thing I did after starting my laptop is struggle to connect to the internet.

The first thing I downloaded was gtalk setup. And once that was loaded I felt connected.

The second thing I did was download DC++ and get online. Another step to feel connected.

Today I got rid of IE7 and got myself mozilla firefox along with speed-dial and foxtab. So now I can finally blog in peace and feel completely connected.!!!

Try Appreciating

When someone tries to improve/uplift something or eradicate something bad, there are always a bunch of people who say why not something else, or why not previously done, why now and why this.
I'd like to question that bunch of people, why not you?
